Released on 14th June 2019, Murder Mystery has broken all viewing records on Netflix, based on information revealed by the streaming service. The year 2019 is quite a vibrant one, as fans are desperately waiting for a number of exciting upcoming movies such as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’. Similarly, the making of a new Breaking Bad movie has been confirmed by Netflix. At the same time, the streaming service has also acquired rights to stream 19 James Bond movies. This may further increase the number of subscriptions on the platform.

Netflix’s new release, Murder Mystery, stars Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston as the lead. The film revolves around a young couple that finds itself caught up in the middle of a murder investigation.

On Tuesday, Netflix revealed that Murder Mystery has been seen by about 30.9 million households within the first three days of its release. The accuracy of this data has been confirmed by a spokesperson from Netflix, who also clarified that the views are only counted if 70% or more of the film’s runtime is viewed by a member.

Previously, we have not seen Netflix release much information regarding the ratings of its releases. However, recently, the streaming service has highlighted the success stories of a few hand-picked releases including Murder Mystery. For instance, executives had previously shared that “Triple Frontier” was seen by more than 52 million households within the four weeks of its release. Similarly, it was also revealed that ‘The Umbrella Academy’ was watched by 45 million households.

Ted Sarandos, the chief content officer at Netflix has promised that such data will continue to be released in the future. He stated, “Over the next several months, we are going to be rolling out more specific, granular reporting”.

Earlier in 2015, Adam Sandler signed a deal for four movies with Netflix. Later in 2017, this deal was doubled down with an additional 4 movies. It was quite surprising for fans, as these deals came during a tough time when Sandler’s movies were not doing very well in the cinemas. Nevertheless, the total views of Murder Mystery clearly indicate that the comedy star is drawing a large audience on the streaming service.
