Idris Elba to Replace Will Smith in Suicide Squad 2?

Getting Idris in the squad seems right.

The fans who liked the original Suicide Squad and are eagerly waiting for the second one keep on getting new surprises every day. Sometime back, it was reported that Margot Robbie would reprise her role as Harley Quinn while Will Smith won’t be reprising his role as Deadshot.

Now multiple sources have revealed that Idris Elba (the super-villain from the upcoming Hobbs & Shaw and the self-destructive detective in Luther) might be replacing Will Smith in Suicide Squad 2. Reports also suggest that there will be a lot of new characters in the second film and many of the previous characters won’t even be there.

Many fans are saddened by the news that Smith won’t reprise his character. The reason for the actor’s back out from the film series is scheduling conflicts. He is committed to shoot for a Bright sequel in July while production for Suicide Squad 2 will kick off in September. Eager followers of the Suicide Squad 2 news would remember that Smith was asked about the possibility of a film in which Deadshot will get a key spot in September last year. The actor seemed to like the idea and said that he loved playing Deadshot and enjoyed the character.

Idris Elba, if he is the new Deadshot would be the second person to switch between the Marvel Climactic Universe and the DC Extended Universe. The first one was the Director of the Suicide Squad, James Gunn. The talented actor had played the role of Heimdall in several Marvel Climactic Universe projects but is character died in Avengers: Infinity War while Gunn had written, and directed Guardians of the Galaxy as well as its follow up. Idris Elba has already refused to play James Bond so he might just have the time for Suicide Squad 2.

If Idris Elba joins Suicide Squad 2, it might increase the possibility of that Deadshot-centered film happening in the future. Margot Robbie is getting all the attention her character needs as she will reprise her role not only in Suicide Squad 2 but also in Birds of Prey, a movie expected to hit the hit theatres in February 2020.

Suicide Squad 2 is slated to release in August 2021.
