The Batman Movie Is Coming With No Jonah Hill In Sight

There must’ve been a disagreement with money matters

The Batman Movie Is Coming With No Jonah Hill In Sight

From the grapevine, a month ago Jeffrey Wright was rumored to play Commissioner James Gordon in The Batman at the same time Jonah Hill was also in talks to join the Caped Crusader’s next movie, only he’d be contributing to a villainous capacity if a deal was signed. Sadly, for those of you who were excited at the prospect of seeing Hill in a theatrical tale, word’s come in that he passed on the project.

This exclusive comes from Deadline, which reported that the two-time Oscar nominee Jonah Hill is no longer in talks to play the villain, either Riddler or Penguin, in Warner Bros’ reboot of The Batman starring Robert Pattinson. Apparently talks broke down and the studio is eyeing new candidates already for one of those roles in the Matt Reeves-directed DC movie. There was interest for Seth Rogen to play Penguin, though no offers or talks have occurred with him.

It came as no surprise, that there was no agreement in the money matters of the negotiation. It was reported that Jonah Hill was looking to make $10 million for appearing, $5 million more than Pattinson, the man bringing Bruce Wayne to life, would be paid. It wouldn’t have been the first time an actor playing a villain in a Batman movie would earn more than the actual hero actor, as that’s what happened with Jack Nicholson on, but in this instance, it’s a moot point since Hill has departed.

Writer and director Matt Reeves revealed last January that The Batman would include a rogue gallery of many colorful adversaries. Along with Penguin and Riddler, this lineup will reportedly include Catwoman whoZoë Kravitz will play, Two-Face, Firefly, and Mad Hatter.

AndJoker is not included in the lineup of The Batman’s adversaries, perhaps his latest box office success made him more popular than the caped crusader and there will be problems with the billing.

Matt Reeves is joined behind the camera by cinematographer Greig Frasier and Oscar-winning VFX supervisor Dan Lemmon.

No specific story details have been revealed to the public yet other than it will have a noir tone and highlight the eponymous protagonist’s detective skills, which hasn’t been done that often in previous movies. Unofficially, it’s rumored it will be an adaptation of The Long Halloween storyline, which saw Bruce Wayne trying to apprehend a new serial killer in Gotham City stepping on toes of well-known villains in his pursuit.
