Marvel has been very busy this year and we are happy for it. Entertainment Weekly has graced us with a Captain Marvel sneak peek that truly hyped up fans and has us looking forward to this prequel. After releasing their new and improved trailer for Venom starring Tom Hardy (which I am also super exited about), we now get a first glance at Brie Larson’s take on the iconic Marvel character Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel and boy was it awesome.

The Captain Marvel sneak peek shows that the movie is set in the 1990’s, so it is definitely a prequel to the entire MCU franchise and is a must-watch for those who want to keep an eye on the continuity. Photos also show Captain Marvel’s elite team Starforce which comprises of a comeback by Korath – by Djimon Hounsou, and Minn-Erva player by Gemma Chan, also known for her role in Crazy Rich Asians. Jude Law is also included in the cast and he will be playing Mar-Vell, the commander of Starforce who is also a love interest of Carol Danvers it seems.

On a fun note, we get to see Nick Fury and Agent Coulson back in the day when they were still green S.H.I.E.L.D. desk jockeys. Both will be played by the original actors and Samuel Jackson is seen on the set without his signature eyepatch. Maybe this movie will tie up that loose end.

As far as villains go, the Captain Marvel sneak peek also shows that the Skrulls are going to be the main antagonists here. These aliens are green, shape-shifting, and very nasty indeed. This was a particularly tricky issue because there was a conflict in ownership of the Skrull movie rights between Marvel and 20th Century Fox but they have agreed to give way and let it be co-owned.

Since it is set in the 90’s, the movie is chock full of references that is pure fan service. The NIN that Carol Danvers wore in a scene, and a ton of nostalgia is to be expected in the movie.

Captain Marvel as a character according to Brie Larson is a free spirited, aggressive, and temperamental character. She doesn’t follow orders, jumps right in and is first in the fight always. It reminds me of how Thor was initially and its interesting to see how her character develops and matures as it fits in the MCU continuity after Infinity War.

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly for this Captain Marvel sneak peek and definitely interesting times ahead. After I’m through watching Venom, this is next on my list.
