The Kurt Cobain Unplugged Sweater Goes to Auction Again

It might fetch the highest bid among all his possessions

The Kurt Cobain Unplugged Sweater Goes to Auction Again

This is not the first time that the Kurt Cobain Unplugged sweater has gone into an auction. This is the second time the famous green cardigan is up for sale. In case you are wondering, yes, it is true that the sweater has not been washed since.

Darren Julien from the Julien’s auctions said, “It’s very important that we don’t wash it,” Darren Julien of Julien’s Auctions told Rolling Stone. The stains are still there. There are even cigarette burns that you can see on the sweater.”

In case you like layering your clothes just like Kurt Cobain, you would love this iconic green cardigan. However, the minimum price bid for this sweater would be set at USD 200,000 (A$296,000). Not everyone can afford that now? Isn’t it?

The current owner of this cardigan is a businessman who wants to stay anonymous. Previously, the last owner of the sweater kept it stored in an acid-free tissue inside a safe. The auction house is currently keeping the well-priced Kurt Cobain possession in a plastic case, wrapped in a similar tissue.

It is surprising to see that while Kanye West and Justin Bieber are working on their merchandise, the famous cardigan belonging to Kurt Cobain is selling for far higher even long after his death.

However, this is not the first Kurt Cobain possession to be out for sale. In 2015, the Manhattan brand sweater that Kurt Cobain used to wear, got sold for $137,500 (A$203,000). The sweater is described as, “a blend of acrylic, mohair, and Lycra with five-button closure (one button absent), with two exterior pockets, a burn hole and discoloration near left pocket and discoloration on the right pocket”

Earlier in 2019, another Kurt Cobain possession got sold for $75,000 (A$111,000) at an auction. It was a sweater that Cobain wore during a final photoshoot for Nirvana. Even that is a very high price for a sweater, for most people. However, the ‘Unplugged’ cardigan may break all previous records. While the minimum bid of the iconic green cardigan is set at $200,000 (A$296,000), it is speculated that it may go as high as $300,000 (A$444,000).
