There’s a Spider-Man 3 already in the works
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man entry into the MCU in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War was a fantastic surprise for the Spidey fans. Since then the fans have enjoyed every moment of his appearance on the big screen which includes five MCU films and two solo adventures. If you love your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, you will enjoy this list of every Spider-Man movie that is expected soon.
Spider-Man 3
Every MCU fan is looking forward to this Spider-Man movie because the last film, Far from Home ended on a cliff-hanger as Mysterio revealed Spidey’s identity to the world. This film was in danger a few months back when Sony and Marvel Studios fought over the movie’s rights, and even Holland had to intervene. The film’s shooting has begun, and it will be released in July 2021. Holland recently stated that the film’s story was “absolutely insane”.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2
Another Spider-Man movie you should put on your watch list is this one. The sequel was evident given that the animated film has won an Oscar. The film will be released in April 2022. Joaquim Dos Santos will direct it and artist Kris Anka will also contribute to the film. There is no word yet on what the script will involve.
Morbius
This film stars Jared Leto as an anti-hero role where he plays a living vampire, Michael Morbius. The film’s story revolves around how he hopes to cure himself of a deadly blood disease only to end up as a vampire. It will have a unique connection to the Spider-Man movie franchise because the trailer stars Homecoming’s vulture. This film will be released in July this year.
Venom 2
Venom 2 will star Tom Hardy (Eddie Brock/Venom) and Andy Serkis is set to direct. It will also include Woody Harrleson (Cletus Kasady/Carnarge) and Naomie Harris (Shriek). So, the film will likely borrow elements from Maximum Carnage storyline from the comics. It will also be included in the Spider-Man movie franchise and is likely to be released in October this year.
Spider-Gwen/Spider-Women
If you think there’s enough talk of a Spider-Man movie, it’s time to get over it then let’s tell you about Spider-Women. Yes, Sony Pictures Animation is working on creating its own version of Spider-Verse. It will star multiple female Spider-heroes as Cindy Moon and Jessica Drew will join Gwen Stacy. It will be directed by Lauren Montgomery and produced by Amy Pascal.
Black Cat/Silver Sable
Another project that has been in the works for a while is Black Cat/Silver Sable. This Spider-Man movie is set in the same story line as Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. The project has been in the works for a long while now. It was to be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and was to be named Silver and Black. The film faced many setbacks as it was expected to be released in February last year. Sony gave more importance to the Spider-Man movie series.
Now the film has a different future as Silver and Black is no more, but Silver and Felicia will get two standalone films. Black Cat is expected to be produced by Prince Bythewood.
Madame Web
Cassandra Webb/Madame Webb was supposed to be a part of the animated Spider-Women project. It turns out that she will get her own stand alone movie. No word yet if this bit of the Spider-Man movie universe will be an animated film just like the Spider-Women or a live-action film. The screenwriters of Morbius, Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama were hired to write the script.
Silk
Cindy had a unique start in the comics when it was revealed that she was a classmate of Peter Parker who got bitten by the same spider. Till now, we only know that Silk and Cindy’s appearance in Spider-Man movie or rather Spider-Women are not related as they will be on the big screen separately.
The Sinister Six
Sony has been thinking of this project since the time it began thinking of a Spider-Man movie. The project has been on the back-burner for a while. Now it seems that the project is back on as Morbius will push some of these super sinister characters together.
Varied Projects
Mysterio, Kraven, Jackpot and Nightwatch projects are still unclear but here are the updates, so far. Kraven has had some progress as screenwriter Richard Wenk is working on the script. Nightwatch, a low-tier hero, a bit similar to Todd McFarlane’s Spawn, Edward Ricourt writes its script and it has been rumoured that Spike Lee is involved in the production but later he denied while Jackpot is a female heroine who’s superhero identity is shared by two women. Sony was looking for a writer in 2018 to write Jackpot, but there is no update on the film since then.
A Roberto Orci Project
The co-writer of the Amazing Spider-Man 2, a previous Spider-Man movie Roberto Orci might be working on another Spider-Man movie script. There are no other details regarding the project that are made public yet.
