Instagram has been a part of our lives for a while now. From taking a good profile picture to creating share-worthy posts, most of us do stuff on Instagram to get maximum likes. Well, Aussies can’t do that anymore. From Thursday onwards, if you are an Aussie, you won’t be able to see Instagram likes anymore.

Though the change of not showing exact Instagram likes is a test-run only, (this test-run has already been done in Canada), how Aussies will react to it is still an important question. Any post you add, be it the list of most Instagrammable hotels or a list of ingredients needed to make hot chocolate at home, would just say that the post was liked by ABC user and others.

If you want to see the Instagram likes and views on your posts, you can do that. Any business user or an Instagram influencer who uses tools like Insights or Ads Manager won’t be impacted by the change. So, if you are a dating guru and you create posts like how to tell if a girl likes you and earn through it, you can go on doing that. The Paid Partnerships tool will also work seamlessly and allow brands to see engagement they have received on a partnered post!

When asked about the change of not showing Instagram likes to Australian users, a spokesperson from the company said that the aim is to improve the Instagram experience and it’s too early to predict how this change will impact the community. Instagram has also stated that the change aims to make people focus on telling stories rather than being too obsessed with likes.

A major reason why Instagram started to remove Instagram likes from different communities could be a 2017 UK study that revealed that Instagram was most harmful to the mental health of young people.

At the time of writing this article, we don’t have any idea how Aussie users will react to not being able to see Instagram likes but we are sure some of you have gotten the notification at the top of the feed regarding this change.
