If you are a fan of fiction and waiting for the next Star Wars or a Marvel movie to entertain you, then you must read this news. We recently saw the stuff of fiction come to reality when Franky Zapata, a French innovator proved that he was a brilliant inventor. He flew across the English Channel.

He did the stunt thanks to a jet-powered surfer that seems to be a rival to Iron Man Jet Pack and looks cooler. Franky Zapata is a former French military reservist who designed the machine over the Strait of Dover when he took off from Sangatte in Northern France.

If you think his face looks familiar, you should know that this is not his first public appearance that’s making the news. He made headlines in July too when he demonstrated the uses of the device during Bastille Day celebrations of France.

Franky Zapata was flanked by 3 helicopters and made a stop halfway through the iconic 22-mile voyage to refuel and finally landed Britain Saint Margaret’s Bay. The entire journey took just 20 minutes. After the stunt, he told the local station that he feels tired and needs a vacation. He also mentioned that he enjoyed the last five to six kilometres. He added that he took pleasure and blocked his mind to feel the pain even though his thighs were burning.

Though many people think that Franky Zapata’s journey is a historic event, he said that only time would decide whether it’s a historical event or not. He started working on a project thanks to a grant by the French army. His first attempt was not successful (July 2019) as he was knocked off balance when he tried to land on a boat to refuel but fell instead of flying. He fixed the error by choosing a big boat and a bigger landing platform.

Franky Zapata, who is a former jet ski racing champion, said that the hoverboard is complex and wouldn’t be easy to fly for an average person. He isn’t sure what the machine will be used for, but the defence experts would likely think of something.

Franky Zapata’s next project is to enjoy a ride in a flying car!
