Awesome News: Lightsaber is an Official Sport in France

Gone are the days when lightsaber duels were restricted to Star Wars series only. Now, technology has turned lightsaber duels into reality. Though the blades are not forced infused plasma, they look cool. They are rigid polycarbonate with LED lighting and almost real sound effects.
What’s more awesome is that France has become the first country to adopt lightsaber as a sport. Yes, the fencing federation of France has officially recognized lightsabre duelling as an official sport. It has been placed along with traditional disciplines of saber, foil, and epee.
The Secretary-General of the Fencing Federation, Serge Aubailly spoke about naming lightsaber as an official sport. He said that the decision was taken by the organization to adopt lightsaber as an official sport was practical as the organization wants the young people to be more active.
Saber explained that it has become difficult to get young people to participate in any sport that involves getting out of the sofa and using any other body parts than the player’s thumbs. This is why the organization is trying to promote a sport where kids have to move to enjoy a sport that’s enabled by the latest technology.
According to the rules, players need to point the tips of lightsabers behind their back before they go for the blows. It ensures that the players are temporarily immune from attacks. Once the players bring the lightsabers in the front, they clash with each other using the lightsabers which usually leads to many sweeping movements.
As lightsaber is now an official sport in France, a scoring system is there in which when a player strikes the other player’s head, he or she gets 5 points. Similarly, 2 points are awarded for hitting the arms, 3 are awarded for legs, and 1 is for the hands. Whoever reaches 15 points first wins the game. If both players reach 10 points, there is a face-off in which the first player to land the blow wins.
