Ever since the Lion King trailer was teased, fans have desperately waited to see their favorite childhood movie from a whole new perspective. The Lion King by Disney has remained a box office hit ever since it was released back in the 90s. Now, the live action remake has generated an extra $142 million at the box office!

The highly realistic live action remake of the classic animated film has become the 5th biggest release of 2019. Moreover, since its release, the film has generated $963 million. It looks like Disney’s The Lion King will soon join other releases including the Avengers: Endgame, Aladdin, and Captain Marvel in the billion dollars squad.

This weekend, The Lion King had added around $75 million in the North American region. As a result of which, domestic sales got boosted up to $350 million. Apart from that, the film has had a very strong showing in China, where it generated $114 million.

Apart from that, The Lion King generated $45 million in the UK, $42 million in Brazil, and $40 million in France. It looks like Disney has had a big milestone year. According to a press release by Disney, the company has set a box office record by making around $7.67 billion as of now. This is quite impressive, considering the fact that Star Wars IX is yet to release. Previously, Disney’s record was $7.61 billion back in 2013.

At the same time, Spider-Man: Far From Home collected $21 million from 67 territories overseas. Up until now, it is the very first Spider-Man movie that has crossed a $1 billion mark internationally. While the film made around $692 million outside the US, it made a total of $1.03 billion all over the world. In comparison, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle grossed at $963 million in total.

Moreover, Toy Story 4 by Disney has generated $917 million internationally. Hence, it has not fallen very far back. It looks like it may also cross the $1 billion mark along with The Lion King, as the film will hit the cinemas in Germany later this August.
