What’s Lord of the Rings on Amazon Prime is All About
It’s more massive than we expected
If you are a fan of prodigious shows and movies like The Dark Crystal, you most likely have heard about the Lord of the Rings TV series that will air on Amazon Prime soon. The behind the scenes supervisor of the series, Tom Shippey, who is also a J.R.R. Tolkien scholar, recently revealed some things about the anticipated TV series. What did he unveil and what else do we know about it? Read on to know.
The Size
Lord of the Rings on Amazon Prime will have 20 episodes in the first season which is shorter than the standard size of a broadcast drama, 22 episodes. Like Game of Thrones prequels, the Lord of the Rings TV series will take place before the events of the main trilogy. The main trilogy was primarily set in Middle Earth’s Third Age, but the new TV series will be set during the Second Age of Middle Earth. The story will show Sauron’s rise to power, which means that young Aragorn won’t be making an appearance anytime soon.
The Story
Lord of the Rings fans who were disappointed by the other fantasy books like The Witcher are rejoicing again after Amazon’s Lord of the Rings TV series was announced. The story of the LOTR TV series would revolve around Sauron invading Eriador and being forced back Númenorean expedition. He returns to Númenor and corrupts Númenoreans. Then he seduces them to break the ban of Valar.

New Characters
Though the story would remain within the boundaries set by Tolkien, the makers of Amazon’s Lord of the Rings TV series are free to add more characters to the show to make it more interesting. It will be Shippey’s task to ensure that Amazon doesn’t take too many liberties and divert too much from the history written by Tolkien. He also mentioned that Amazon would portray only the Second Age and not the First or the Third.
Amazon’s Lord of the Rings TV series will begin filming in August and has a budget of more than a billion dollars. We’ll let you know as soon as the premiere date is out.
