Game of Thrones Ending: Lena Headey Wanted a Better Death for Cersei
Even antagonists deserve a good ending.
Though the Game of Thrones series is finally over and there are no plans for a Game of Thrones sequel, most people are still chewing on how the series should have ended. Fortunately for all of us, the fans are not the only ones who hope for a different ending, actors and actresses hope for the same too. One of the most prominent actress of the show, Lena Headey, who played the role of the hateful and selfish Cersei Lannister recently opened about the death of her character. Read on to know what she said.
For those who have been so busy to watch the last season of Game of Thrones (maybe because they are in love with the Chernobyl series), Cersei dies under a pile of bricks with her lover and brother Jaime Lannister when they try to escape King’s Landing and Dany’s wrath. Most fans who hated Cersei for many seasons wanted her to die more painfully and dramatically.
The actress who portrayed the character in Game of Thrones, Lena Headey said that she wanted a better death for Cersei, so she was kind of gutted. She also said that she hasn’t sat down drunkenly with the Game of Thrones writers, Dan Weiss, and David Benioff yet and admitted that they couldn’t have possibly pleased everyone no matter what they did in the Game of Thrones finale.
The actor who played Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau previously said that he found their deaths (Cersei and Jaime) to be poetic and mentioned that it was more emotional than even his last scene. Maisie Williams (or Arya Stark) also admitted that she hoped Arya had killed Cersei even if Arya had to die in the process. Williams even acknowledged that she expected Jaime to unveil a mask and reveal himself to be Arya in the final moments of Cersei’s life because that was something Arya would have done.
We strongly believe that Cersei deserved to die painfully and slowly in Game of Thrones after all the vicious things she did. But that’s life, isn’t it? You don’t get whatever you want, even when you are watching a fictional series!
